University Collaboration

Aeroflex has established relationships with UCL, Surrey and Lancaster Universities within the United Kingdom providing financial support and work placements for students who has subsequently been employed by Aeroflex at its Stevenage facility. Members of Aeroflex staff regularly contribute to the lecture programs, and the company continues to offer placements to students.

Aeroflex made endowments worth £1 million to Lancaster University’s School of Computing and Communications and similarly to The University College London (UCL) Wireless Communications Laboratory. “Aeroflex’s very generous donation will make a huge difference to the work of this Department, and this new equipment will accelerate our research into 3G, and 4G and beyond wireless technologies,” said Professor Izzat Darwazeh, the Head of the Communications and Information Systems Group in UCL’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. “Our relationship with Aeroflex, and the opportunities it provides for our students, helps to prepare them for their future careers as well as enhancing our worldwide academic reputation.”

The inauguration of these laboratories affirms Aeroflex’s commitment to supporting academic research, and continues their program of assisting universities who are at the forefront of wireless technology in order to nurture the talented engineers that the industry needs to be competitive in the future.

5G Research

Aeroflex alongside a significant number of the world’s most notable mobile network operators, infrastructure and tools providers, media and communications organizations and the UK’s communications regulator have formally joined the University of Surrey in its ambitions to deliver a specialized 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC) on its main campus in Guildford.

Together with the University of Surrey, Aeroflex will conduct research into the development of advanced technologies for a 5G network of the future, to establish a world-leading position in mobile broadband communications and internet innovations. The project will include the development of a 5G “test bed”, based on the University campus, on which to test technologies in a real-world environment.

Aeroflex is delighted to be part of the 5GIC program that creates an excellent and unique platform from which to work with world-class researchers and companies in the mobile communications field. As a leading wireless network infrastructure test solution provider, Aeroflex is excited about having the opportunity to understand and tackle the new test and measurement needs and challenges of the future 5G technologies, and to developing and providing solutions for it.
